During treatments I tailor it to your specific needs in regards to your health conditions & concerns. I often talk about posture, alignment, working positions & tasks that may aggravate. I also discuss strategies that will help to alleviate symptoms. Treatment plans will also be developed to help plan & ensure improvements.
My clientele vary from youth to the elderly, pre & post natal women, musculoskeletal injuries/problems, healthy individuals to those with complex & chronic health, those with pain & those on the cancer journey. Remedial Massage
Remedial massage assist in rehabilitation, pain & injury management. A variety of manual therapy techniques may be employed in treatments, such as deep tissue massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Muscle Energy Techniques, Direct /Indirect Myofascial Techniques, & Neuromuscular Facilitation, light touch massage, thermotherapy as well as other techniques deemed appropriate by the therapist in treating the presenting problem. An assessment before & after will help determine outcomes & improvements from the treatment.
Treatments often require more than one session. A treatment plan will be developed with you at the initial appointment.
Advice regarding posture, alignment, body positioning, correct manual handling/lifting & core activation are other strategies that are often discussed during a remedial massage treatment. Tamara's dual training as an Exercise Physiologist & Massage Therapist provides the unique experience to glean expertise in different disciplines.
Exercise Physiology
I am an Accredited Exercise Scientist & an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. I have a home based clinic where I treat & I can provide online Telehealth Consultations.
Accredited Exercise Scientists are professionals with high level training in exercise & sports science. At a minimum we hold a Bachelor degree & it equips us with the knowledge & skills to apply the science of exercise to develop interventions that improve health, fitness, well being, performance, & that assist in the prevention of chronic conditions.
Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP's) are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills & competencies to design, deliver & evaluate safe effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities. Pathologies often covered by AEP services include cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological, musculoskeletal, cancers, kidney, respiratory / pulmonary & mental health as well as any other conditions where there is evidence that exercise can improve clinical status.
Oncology Massage
Oncology massage is an different to existing massage therapy techniques that allows safe work for complications of cancer & cancer treatment. Anyone who has ever received treatment for cancer, those in active treatment & those in recovery or survivorship & those at the end of life are best suited to Oncology Massage.
In an Oncology Massage intake discussion will include a wide variety of questions including:
- cancer treatment history
- tumor site or metastasis
- compromised blood cell counts
- lymph node involvement
- blood clots or blood clot risk
- medications (short & long term)
- vital organ involvement
- fragile or unstable tissue
- medical devices
- fatigue, neuropathy, or pain
- changes in sensation
- late effects of treatment
